Our Commitment to Racial Equity
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa is committed to being intentional and accountable leaders, taking bold action to remove barriers to racial equity in the communities we serve. We strive to be an authentic ally and use our platform as a community leader and funder to work to reverse the systems of racism that exist in our communities. We will accomplish this through funding, collaborating, and amplifying messages about transformational change.
Funding
The Community Foundation uses our financial resources to support organizations acting for racial equity and strengthening minoritized communities. We have established the CFNEIA Racial Equity Fund, a resource for projects moving our communities toward racial equity.
We’re committed to actively helping organizations apply for funding and secure grants. We also will track and measure the results of our funding and report back on progress, using data to inform our decision-making and future action.
Collaborating
We began our work with a community needs study, which has informed our progress. We have assembled a Racial Equity Advisory Committee, comprised of local leaders from the Black community and other diverse communities, to help lead and guide our work through shared experience and community knowledge. We acknowledge the perspective of our staff and board is limited and seek to continue to diversify our team to broaden our vision.
Amplifying
As a community leader, we use our platform to amplify Black experiences and share stories of nonprofits, companies, and individuals leading racial equity conversations. We are here to spread positive messages of transformational change.
We’ve created a directory of nonprofit organizations led by Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC) to help you find and learn about groups doing this important work in Black Hawk County.
