Floyd County Community Foundation Distributes $153,920 to Local Organizations

The Floyd County Community Foundation (FCCF) held its 2023 grant awards celebration at the Floyd County Fairgrounds on January 10, announcing the distribution of $153,920.23 to 24 projects of organizations serving Floyd County through its 2023 grant cycle.

“We are fortunate to have these local nonprofits in our region. The Floyd County Community Foundation is proud to uplift organizations that strive to create impact in our communities,” said Kurt Hoeft, chair of the FCCF impact committee.

Grant recipient, organization, project the grant will fund, and grant amount is listed below by funding area.

Arts & Culture:

  • Cedar Valley Engine Club, Cedar Valley Engine Club - $3,500
  • Charles City Arts Council, Shining Light on the Arts - $10,000
  • Floyd County Fair Society, Fair Exhibit - $10,000
  • Floyd County Historical Society & Museum, Museum Vehicle Restoration – $7,198
  • Nora Springs Historical Society, IT Equipment for Documentary - $1,500
  • Rudd Historical Society, Dress Form Display & Storage Units - $5,000

Community Betterment:

  • City of Colwell, Park Sidewalk & Parking Spaces - $4,800
  • City of Marble Rock, Walter F. Bohl Community Center - $10,000
  • City of Rockford, West Park Improvement Phase II - $9,200
  • City of Rudd, Library - Sign - $10,000
  • Main Street Charles City, Charley Western Trailway Committee - $10,000
  • Main Street Charles City, Design Committee – Downtown Beautification - $1,100

Education & Youth Development:

  • Charles City Baseball Club, Lou Koenigsfeld Field Renovations - $10,000
  • City of Charles City Library, Cooking Around the World - $1,300
  • The Learning Center, Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan - $10,000

Environmental & Animal Welfare

  • PAWS, Microchip & Cat Neuter Clinics - $3,900
  • Rotary Club of Charles City, Tree Replacement Program - $5,000

Health

  • Floyd County ISU Extension & Outreach, Wellness Educational Promotion – Blender Bike - $3,000
  • Senior Citizens of Charles City Area, New Convection Oven - $8,000

Human Service

  • Jordan River, Messiah’s Food Pantry - $5,000
  • Lutheran Services in Iowa, Floyd County Healthy Families Iowa - $4,000
  • Messiah Lutheran Church, Automatic Door Opener - $4,157
  • Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Feeding Families - $10,000
  • Trinity United Methodist Church, Our Brothers Keeper - $7,265.23

Decisions on grant awards are determined by a local committee, which consists of volunteers from Floyd County. Committee members include Kurt Hoeft (chair), Jen Burton, Sarah Murray, Lisa Garden, Melissa Jones, Amy Staudt, Randy Heitz, Amy Leaman and Teresa Stevens-Marth.

Grants are awarded through FCCF’s competitive grant process to projects in the program areas of arts and culture, community betterment, education and youth development, environment and animal welfare, health and human service. Grant applicants must be a 501(c)(3) designated organization or government entity serving Floyd County in order to be considered for funding. The 2024 grant cycle opens September 1, with an application deadline of October 15. The grant guidelines and application can be found at www.floydccf.org.
