Women for Good Changing the Lives of Women and Girls
May 10, 2019
The Women's Fund grant cycle began accepting applications on Friday, May 10. This is a great opportunity to talk about what the Women's Fund and how Women for Good is a driving force behind making a difference for women and girls in Black Hawk County.
Women for Good was established with a $50,000 donation from local philanthropist, Pauline Barrett, who saw a vision and purpose for a program that engages and empowers women in their community. Since then, through membership dues and donations, the Women’s Fund endowment has granted over $115,000 to programs and projects impacting women and girls.
While this is great news, the need continues to outpace the grant support Women for Good can make through the Women's Fund. The Women's Fund grant cycle consistently receives over $100,000 in requests each year. That is why we want to engage more women in our communities through Women for Good.
Women for Good educates, engages, and inspires giving to improve the lives of women and girls in Black Hawk County. Established in 1999 at the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, Women for Good (formerly Women in Philanthropy) grants to nonprofit organizations changing the lives of women and girls every year through the Women's Fund endowment.
Membership offers an opportunity to engage with other community-minded women at quarterly programs featuring guest speakers from organizations serving women and girls, the annual Women’s Fund grant selection process and occasional volunteer opportunities or nonprofit tours/site visits. Through these interactions, Women for Good members become informed and inspired to take action.
